John Schneider masterminded the first major remodel in 1890. The third floor was added as a laundry room and maids quarters. The inviting columned veranda is reminiscent of his wife's, Virginia, southern heritage. I had the pleasure of meeting the now late Howard Link who grew up in the house with his grandparents in the 1930s. He actually had the Hart room and told of his hiding places in the wall. During WWII, his aunt left the house and it become a rental property until its remodel in 1970. He remembered her taking out the light fixtures and attempting to remove the beveled glass sliding doors. The doors are still here! They are framed in steel and had to stay.

More casual than the rest of the house, the suite features the original pine plank floors, brick walls and the fourteen-foot high ceiling peak. Details abound from books to my "old" record albums; sofa, leather chair and ottoman making this adult tree house quite cozy. It's bigger than some apartments.
